Our Favorite Turmeric-Infused Recipes (Hint: They’re Simple)
If you haven’t yet heard of turmeric’s seemingly magical properties, prepare to have your mind blown. Your avocados and chia seeds need to scooch over, turmeric is officially on the superfood scene. For those of you who already swear by turmeric, you’ll be stoked to see some of our favorite powerhouse recipes which highlight—you guessed it—turmeric.
But if turmeric is so great, why not just sprinkle raw turmeric powder on everything?
You can, but you won’t get the full benefits because of a tricky thing called bioavailability. The key ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, is notorious for low bioavailability, meaning your body has a hard time absorbing the full benefits on it’s own.
So, how do you increase bioavailability to get the full benefits of curcumin?
By pairing curcumin with black pepper extract—black pepper contains a compound called piperine which slows down the breakdown of turmeric in the gut and liver, giving your body a longer period of time to absorb the benefits.
